As an ongoing celebration of African-American history, we have created an archive of North Carolina's influential African-American pioneers. This archive, while not conclusive, is the initial step in helping our youth identify the significant role that African Americans continue to play in the history of our state. Through our research, we've found that while most of these individuals were not trying to position themselves as trail blazers, undoubtedly, that is precisely what they became. Because of their perseverance and desire for a stronger community, hunger for a better lifestyle for their families and belief in an all powerful God, they endured and laid the foundation for today's dentists, attorneys, physicians, principals, electricians and hotel owners. It is imperative that our youth are aware of all that we've accomplished, so they understand that their dreams, without question, can become a reality.
